LIGHTING

FOR RETAIL ENVIRONMENTS

EMERGENCY LIGHTING THAT PROTECTS THE BRAND ENVIRONMENT,
NOT JUST THE BUILDING.

WHERE EMERGENCY LIGHTING
MEETS RETAIL ENVIRONMENTS

In a premium retail environment, every detail either reinforces the brand or undermines it.

The environments that premium retailers create are carefully managed — from the material palette to the lighting temperature, from the fixture heights to the sound levels. Emergency lighting that reads as an afterthought disrupts that careful work.

Retail interior designers and brand architects specify everything for a reason. The emergency exit sign above the door, the luminaire in the fitting room ceiling — these are part of the environment too. In a space where every element is chosen to communicate something about the brand, a generic fitting communicates the wrong thing.

Philip Payne has been specified across retail and brand environments where design standards apply throughout. We make emergency lighting that belongs in those spaces.

Emergency lighting in these settings
must do more than meet a standard.

It must sit within the brand environment — not compete with it.

KEY CAPABILITIES:

FINISH RANGE AND COLOUR MATCHING

Premium retail environments are defined by their material and finish palette. Our products are available in an extensive range of RAL and bespoke finishes — from polished brass and antique bronze to matte black and satin chrome — so that emergency signage can be specified to complement the surrounding environment rather than contradict it.

MINIMAL VISUAL PRESENCE

The TYKE recessed downlight delivers compliant emergency illumination through a minimal ceiling aperture, with five optical distributions for optimal coverage across open retail floors, fitting areas and circulation routes. Where ceiling geometry allows, it disappears entirely into the environment.

NATURAL AND PREMIUM MATERIALS

For retail environments with a natural or heritage material palette — timber, stone, raw finishes — our ARDEN range offers emergency exit signs made from FSC-certified British timber. Available in natural oak and stained finishes, ARDEN is the right product for brand environments where sustainability credentials and material authenticity both matter.

MULTI-SITE COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT

Retail estates and department stores often operate across multiple floors, sites or franchise environments. Specto-XT wireless automatic testing monitors every luminaire continuously, schedules all required tests, and maintains a full compliance audit trail — accessible from any device, without requiring access to individual luminaires. Consistent compliance across every site.

EMERGENCY LIGHTING TO
SUPPORT RETAIL ENVIRONMENTS

We have a number of emergency lighting ranges suited to premium retail and brand environments — from flagship stores and luxury department stores to brand experience centres and high-specification retail destinations.

At One New Change in the City of London — the retail and office development designed by Jean Nouvel, directly opposite St Paul’s Cathedral — Philip Payne products were specified for a development where architectural standards apply to every component of the build.

At the Morgan Motor Company Experience Centre in Malvern — a brand environment encompassing museum, café, shop and factory tour for one of Britain’s most distinctive luxury car manufacturers — Super 7 luminaires were installed, their injection-moulded form and rod suspension providing a statement fitting appropriate to the brand’s design character.

At Royal Ascot Racecourse, the premium hospitality and retail environment that surrounds one of Britain’s most famous sporting occasions, Philip Payne products were specified to meet the exacting standards of a venue that expects the same attention to detail from every supplier.

JUST A FEW OF OUR
EMERGENCY LIGHTING RANGES

OLTON Cylinder

Philip Payne’s design-led exit sign in a refined circular extrusion profile — the Cylinder variant is suited to soft, organic and hospitality-led schemes. Slim, precise form with an 8mm acrylic legend panel and extensive metallic and solid finish palette. Custom finishes available for projects where standard doesn’t meet the brand standard. DALI and Specto-XT compatible, Made in Britain.

HENLEY

Precision aluminium extrusion body, CNC-machined end caps, 8mm acrylic legend panel. Eight standard finishes — from Black and White to Antique Brass and Penny Bronze — with RAL and bespoke options. ARDEN

The UK’s first emergency exit signs made from sustainable British timber. FSC-certified, British-made, available in natural oak and a range of stained finishes. For retail environments with a natural material palette or a brand positioning built around sustainability and craft — ARDEN is the product that makes emergency signage part of the story.

Compact, powerful and discreet — TYKE delivers compliant emergency illumination through a minimal ceiling aperture. Five optical distributions for optimal coverage across retail floors, fitting rooms, circulation and escape routes. Available in white, black and any RAL classic colour. 60% reduction in embodied carbon over previous versions.

Super 7

An injection-moulded luminaire combining considered design with installation simplicity.
